Our story
From a swap to an exchange
How a very old idea became a trade exchange, and what we changed to bring it to the US.
Barter
Businesses have always traded
A printer does a restaurant’s menus; the restaurant caters the printer’s open house. Trading what you have for what you need is as old as business itself.
The catch is timing. A swap only works when both sides want what the other has, at the same moment. Most of the time, they don’t.
The exchange
An exchange takes the swap out of barter
On a trade exchange, members sell to any member for credits and spend those credits with any other member. Nobody has to want what you have at the moment you want what they have. The exchange keeps score, and coaches help members find each other.
